Happy Martin Luther King Day! 1/19/09

Family,

For P-day (Preparation Day) the zone finally decided to do something other than basketball. We played ultimate frisbee. It was awesome. I'm not as fast as I used to be, but my throw has gotten a lot better. I realized that everyday when I knock on doors I use my wrist muscles. Frisbee throws are all in the wrist so I can throw it pretty far now. I would get the frisbee, then some of the fast Elders would run down the hill and I would just throw the length of the field so them. Everyone was amazed, because every week they see me play basketball, and they see how uncoordinated and bad I am, and then they saw me play frisbee, and I could actually play.

I found out the Torres family is trying to move to a cheaper house, so they keep on looking for houses on Sunday. And Alejandra would have come but one of her old boyfriends hit her or something like that-- that involved the police. The police said they would come down to file the report on Sunday at 1:10, church starts at 1. She said she'd come for the second part but the police didn't even come until 3 or 4. But they're still doing pretty good. Our goal is to find some new people, because some of these are dropping out on us. I still think the people we have have a lot of potential, so I would like to stay in the area a few more months and help them progress.

1/12/09

Family,

The Torres family is going alright. They forgot that church was changed to 1:00. The 11 year old daughter reads more than anyone else. She said she just finished reading the book Artimus Fowl, and when she went back to return it she decided just to check out a small book, because she wanted to spend her time learning about Jesus. She has to read an hour a day for school, so she reads the Book of Mormon. We just need to get the Mom more into it. She agrees with everything we say, she just has a hard time going it.

We found a cool family this week. It was 8 oclock at night on a Monday and we were walking out of an apartment complex. As we were passing by, this lady doing her laundry outside we talked to her for just like a minute, her name was Alejandra. Then we went back and taught a lesson on Tuesday. Passed by Thursday to remind them of their Friday appointment, then gave them a tour of the church Saturday. They were going to go to church Sunday but her dad came up from Mexico to visit them. So tonight we are going to have them come with us to a member's house to have a Family Home Evening. We have seen them everyday for the last week and they are really cool. Alejandra says the Bible confuses her, and that she's been around to a bunch of different churches, but she doesn't really go to church. Which is good because it means they're looking, and except for church on Sunday they've kept every commitment.

I finally went to Walmart and developed some pictures.

Happy New Year 1-05-09

Last week I got my new companion, Elder Anderson. In the mission we have all these weird terms. For example, if you're the missionary's trainer, you're their "dad". If you'rr the missionary's second companion, you're their "step dad". If your companion goes to train, the missionary that your old companion is training, you're their "mom". My old companion Elder Farrington, after he was with me, went to go train Elder Anderson, so Im Elder Anderson's "mom", Elder Farrington being his "dad". Then after Elder Farrington, Elder Anderson had me as a companion, so Im his "step dad". So I am his "mom" and his "step dad".

Elder Anderson is so smart, he's been out for 5 months and his Spanish is amazing. I hardly have to teach him anything, I love it. He said that he likes the way I teach and he could pick up on a dew things, but he looks like he already knows everthing. It makes being a companion a lot more fun. We are going pretty good, we are working with the Torres family.

Julia, Mariela, and Aida. We gave them a tour of the church building, and they really liked it. On Sunday their son took the car, so they couldn't make it to church, but they're doing really good. We're going to try to have a Family Home Evening tonight with them.

I am really looking forward to this transfer, I know it will be really good.
